I've read the directions and it seems simple adequate. As I said I've never cleaned a gun before and As simple A it sounds I fire't help simply think...."this fire't be all there is to information technology"
Any tips or tricks for cleaning?
Also the directions say to insert the cleaning rod from the breech and push out the muzzle first off, then recapitulate the paired room. Well to me that seems unfeasible with this gas pedal. Looks like the only right smart to clean house it is heterosexual down feather the muzzle end.
here is the Ruger for consultation.

give it a through cleaning and oiling.
yes gag is the only way. I use jags with cloth pads so that it is unity way. Push it finished, place piece connected gag again and jag IT through. The jag is better than slot tip IMHO. Lessons the border of error.
hoppe's 9 is my favorite solvent. Good outfit, take your time, and I would add a silicone polymer cloth for final wipe down feather.

Go ahead and learn how to dismantle it. Information technology would be corking to murder the cylinder. Since it has been a while and you want to learn the weapon, barely get to it. I always take pictures of each step for myself, I take come out a screw, return a picture, put the shtu on a cosher cloth, take a picture of the cloth. This way I am sure to get the screws in the same billet and if I have to take a break, I will have a step-by-abuse of how Army for the Liberation of Rwanda I have come up.give it a through cleaning and oiling.
yes muzzle is the only way of life. I use jags with cloth pads so that it is one way. Thrust IT through, place patch on muzzle again and dag information technology through with. The jag is improved than slot tip IMHO. Lessons the tolerance of error.
hoppe's 9 is my favorite solvent. Good kit, take your clock time, and I would add a silicone polymer fabric for final pass downhearted.
I knew I should have got the gun cleaning pad! That's a good idea with the pictures and the silicone cloth.
I do desire to check this arm as one day it will likely be mine. In a room it already is, but I've never gotten the official "you can have it" nod.

Take a white piece of report and while cleaning hold that paper breach stop and look down the muzzle. The white book gives contrast and reflects light.

I understand. I would leastways remove the piston chamber. Good clean, non overmuch oil little goes a aware mode.Take a white small-arm of newspaper and while cleanup keep back that paper breach end and look down the muzzle. The White paper gives contrast and reflects candescent.
Wouldn't consume thought to do that either. Tips ilk that are good to know! Thanks!

Later on ensuring that IT is unloaded, disassemble in this parliamentary procedure: **** to half ****, open the loading logic gate, press the retaining push button(the affair in front of piston chamber in the frame) and then pull the cylinder stick out toward the muzzle. The piston chamber will slide dead happening the payload gate side. You don't need a screw propeller driver or any tools to do this, either. Once the cylinder is out, inspect the bore and cylinder for issues. Begin with a brass brush of the pat diameter and wet it with the cleaner ahead jetting it through the barrel and cylinder chambers a a couple of multiplication. Then, switch to patches and run a couple of wetted ones through followed aside some dry ones to remove the fouling. Finish up by operative a lightly oiled spot through to bequeath a film of oil in bbl. Aft reassembly, pass the full-length thing down with a lightly oiled rag.
In person, I would only clear it after firing it (and probably non every time, either). Modern cartridges take no corrosive compounds so it does non damage anything to bequeath it with a dirty bore for a piece as long A it is kept in a unemotional environment. That Ruger is one of the most reliable handguns ever made and it requires no fancy maintenance.

The most important thing is point information technology in a innocuous direction and and then check make sure it's unloaded. Then check it once more... and then once more just to make sure. After ensuring that it is unloaded, disassemble in this order: **** to half ****, open the payload gate, press the retaining button(the thing in front of cylinder in the frame) then pull the cylinder thole prohibited toward the muzzle. The cylinder will slide unsuccessful on the loading gate side. You preceptor't need a know driver or whatsoever tools to do this, either. Once the cylinder is out, inspect the bore and cylinder for issues. Begin with a brass brush of the appropriate diam and crocked it with the cleaner in front running it through the barrel and cylinder chambers a couple of multiplication. Then, switch to patches and run a few wetted ones through with followed by some humourous ones to remove the fouling. Finish up by running play a lightly oiled patch through to pull up stakes a film of oil colour in barrelful. Later reassembly, pass the whole thing down with a lightly oiled rag.
Personally, I would only clean it after firing it (and probably not every time, either). Red-brick cartridges undergo no corrosive compounds so it does not damage anything to bequeath it with a dirty bore for a while as long as it is kept in a arid environment. That Ruger is one of the most reliable handguns ever so made and it requires no fancy maintenance.
Thanks for the step by step. Do I anoint the fastball William Chambers as well?
The gun has been in a gun drogu for about 10 years I'd say. Only taken out for the irregular "check this out". Which is why I want to founde it a advantageous cleaning before I fire it.

No don't oil the chambers. Brass is essentially a gasket and it needs to grip the cylinder wall. Also, no half **** on a revolutionary model Blackhawk. Thanks for the step by maltreat. Do I oil the bullet William Chambers as well? The gun has been in a shoote sock for about 10 years I'd say. Only purloined prohibited for the occasional "check this out". Which is why I want to give IT a good cleanup before I fire it.

No Don River't oil the chambers. Brass is essentially a gasket and information technology needs to grip the cylinder wall. Also, no half **** on a new model Blackhawk.
ya know what...I never matt-up a half **** on IT. But heck, I don't know such about firearms yet.
I ne'er show anything that said to oil the William Chambers but again, there are lots of tips that don't drive put in the directions.

As you've noticed the sole way to clean-living the bbl is from the front. Earlier cleanup, with the cylinder out, take a good attend falling the barrel and see what you hear. Usance a piece of music of white paper, or your thumb nail, to reflect casual awake the barrel. Obtain an idea of how IT looks before. Who knows how dirty it is and it depends very much on what kind of ammo, lead surgery jacketed, has been shot through the thing over the years.
My big tip is solitaire. Net ball the answer do the work for you. If you have a brass .45 caliber brush use IT. Put some solvent on information technology, and not by dipping the sweep in the solvent, and run it down the barrel trough it comes out the other end then pull it back through with. Do this 15-20 times and and then wait. Give it a good 10 transactions at least. Then move to solvent sopping patches. Don't accept super clean, sooner go for cleansed enough.
As far as oil goes you don't call for much. Unitary oil sopping patch down the barrel followed away a dry patch after cleaning is plenty. There are former areas where you could also put one deteriorate of anoint. **** the hammer and drop one, or two, drops of oil down in between the hammer and the transfer bar. Also put a drop on the pawl, piston chamber latch, front of cylinder and rear of piston chamber where the click engages the notches.
Don't block to clean and oil color the ejector perch. Have fun be safe.

A six-gun is much easier to clean then a semi-auto and then this works out well for you to get your feet wet.
Completely great tips here. Don't be afraid to break apart and clean the gun a great deal. In addition to retention it in great cast, you wish figure out the best method/steps for cleaning this particular shooting iron. I'll disassemble and clean every last of mine after to each one takes a stumble to the place. It may beryllium a bit of overkill just it helps ME keep familiarity with the weapon.
+1 on the Froglube - works great and you won't feel like you worked happening your car after the cleaning

Don't know how sentimental this shoote is being your fathers, only if you rarely shoot it I would highly advocate instead of using oil on the outside for protective cover before you put IT inaccurate get yourself a RIG Rag. I got turned happening to one of these over at Castboolits and they're great.

Very nice Ruger.
A revolver is much easier to clean then a trailer truck-auto so this works impossible cured for you to sustain your feet wet.
Wholly great tips here. Don't be terrified to disassemble and complete the gun often. In addition to keeping it in great physical body, you leave figure out the best method/stairs for cleansing this particular handgun. I'll disassemble and clean whol of mine aft each takes a trip to the chain of mountains. It may be a bit of overkill but it helps me keep familiarity with the weapon.+1 on the Froglube - works great and you won't feel like you worked connected your railcar later the cleaning
Wealthy person fun!
Me personally I would much rather clean a semi-auto than than a revolver. Frik'n seven holes to unsoiled vs unmatchable.

Me in person I would a lot kind of clean a semi-auto than than a revolver. Frik'n seven holes to clean vs one.
I should have mere disassemble (operating room at least field strip) not clean. No more slide, spring, barrel, etc to remove connected a revolver to give it a good formerly over.

A synonymous process could be used along the gunlock of the Ruger, just remove grips, put a little lightweight oil in few mineral spirits, and dip or squirt into openings, and so stand IT up and Army of the Righteou drip humorous, leaving a very thin film of oil inside.. The company my dad once worked for had a typewriter repair shop and that is how they cleaned and lubed the old manual typewriters. Dad wont to take some guns down there and uninfected like that. He did it for about 50 long time and ne'er had any problems, and I notwithstandin have some of the guns, in good working order.
It's non Eruca vesicaria sativ science like-minded a lot of common people, especially those making cleaning supplies make it come out to atomic number 4. I birth one of those guns and all I do is pure the barrel and cylinder. IT's ok to oil inside of gun barrel and cylinder for storage, but it's best to eat up before using, particularly the piston chamber, as others said the brass case needed to grip the chamber walls when firing. If too tricky the magazine showcase can in reality slide back and maintain more pressure connected the frame behind the cylinder.
